Cultivating Wellness with Plants and Paints
with Kathe Mickunas from Verbena Bee

With playful guided plant activities and painting exploration, Kathe will
guide you gracefully with therapeutic horticulture, flower and painting
adventures. Kathe is passionate about the healing power of flowers, specifically noting the resilience found in nature.
Under the name, Verbena Bee, Kathe focuses on therapeutic gardening
including designing workshops for memory care residents at locations i.e.,
AVITA of Brunswick. She received formal training in horticultural therapy,
including studies at Colorado State University. This is one not to miss!

The Allagash - A Hard Path to Wilderness

Tales of Woods & Waterways: a tour from Allagash Lake to to Allagash Falls.
Tim and Susan Caverly have spent years presenting programs and classes for schools, libraries, and other organizations with humor and great respect for waterways and the wilds of Maine.
In our program, they will take us on a virtual trip as we
travel from Allagash Lake to Allagash Falls. Along the way we will learn
about the beginning of the AWW as a Wild and Scenic River. We will hear of
efforts to create hiking trails, and learn about day use opportunities, as well
as learn about the impact human presence and use has on the region, and
how global warming and climate-change affect the area.
Tim Caverly has an extensive career working in Maine’s great outdoors. Tim
has a BS degree from UMaine, has worked as a ranger; spent 32 years
with the Dept of Conservation; and 18 years as supervisor of the Allagash
Wilderness Waterway. He and his wife Susan have presented programs
and classes for schools, libraries, and other organizations throughout the state and published fourteen books with stories of the great Allagash River.
In their spare time, they breed and raise golden retrievers.

Growing Hybrid Daylilies in the North

Sterling has served as President of the Southern Maine Daylily Society and has a lengthy history with, and love for daylilies. After moving to Maine in 1990, he “Got hit by the daylily bug” and has been growing, collecting, hybridizing, and selling daylilies for over 3 decades. He currently works for Allen, Sterling & Lothrup Garden Center in Falmouth.
Sterling will cover the many types of daylilies and how to choose them for a northern climate, where to buy the best plants, pros and cons of growing daylilies, tips on hybridizing daylilies, and more. We may get bitten by the daylily bug as well!

Meet members of the Bath Community Forestry Committee to learn about
the work they are doing on behalf of the City’s Urban Forests. Topics will
include work on forest pests including the emerald ash borer, management
of Butler Head Preserve, and the City’s tree nursery, as well as efforts to
support Bath’s Comprehensive Plan and Climate Action Plan. Maintaining
healthy forests and trees, educating Bath citizens on emerging pests that
could affect trees in their own backyards, methods to ward off these pests,
and caring for our public preserved lands is just part of the work of this
important committee that works on behalf of our great City of Bath. Nancy Sferra is Chair of the Bath Forestry Committee with extensive background in Forestry Management.

Join us for a comprehensive discussion on the process of drying flowers.
From seed to sprout, to planting and maintenance, to harvest and drying, to
preserving and selling, we will get in depth on the basics and give our personal insight on details and advice for creating everlasting blooms.
Ancestor Farms is a cut-flower farm owned, operated, and founded by husband and wife duo Willow and Jordan Larrimore in Benton, Maine in 2024.
Willow brings 20 years of hands-on growing experience, while Jordan is a
self-taught floral designer and a proud 14th-generation Mainer, carrying
forward a deep respect for place, heritage, and timeless beauty.

In this interactive workshop and we will learn all about herbs from growing them, the many culinary uses, fragrances and history. Nancy is a Master Gardener, and avid quilter. After retiring from 40 years of teaching, she returned to Arrowsic, where she enjoys teaching about gardening.

Annual Plant Sale

Hundreds of member-cultivated plants including Perennials, Native species, Heirloom varieties have been dug, divided and potted by members. There will also be some vegetable and annual seedlings and plants available as well. Proceeds of the sale go to the BGC Scholarship Fund.

Annual Plant Sale
Gardeners line up before 8 am to buy plants at our Member-curated Plant Sale. Members offer a huge choice of prized perennials dug from their gardens including peonies, hostas, irises, rhubarb, and herbs, as well as a variety of annual and vegetable seedlings, plus ground covers, shrubs and small trees. Browse the Garden Treasures table for garden-themed gifts, tools, and books.
Nearly all Members assist with our major fundraiser by digging, potting, identifying plants, labeling, and transporting plants; collecting gently used garden books and tools, and vintage items for the Garden Treasures table; help with tent/table set up and break down; serve as cashiers; and provide help on sale day. This is our major fundraiser, which like the Festival of Greens, supports scholarships and other community projects.

For more than 10 years, Members have transformed The Winter Street Center into a holiday decorating and shopping delight. We spend the late autumn collecting plant material and making all types of holiday decorations. Featured items include live wreaths & greens, centerpieces, ornaments, vintage objects gardening items, and specialty items.
